Institut “Jožef Stefan” (IJS) je vodilna slovenska raziskovalna institucija s sedežem v Ljubljani. Ustanovljen leta 1949 se IJS ponaša z bogato tradicijo temeljnih in aplikativnih raziskav na področju naravoslovja in tehnike. Naše poslanstvo je s sodobnimi raziskovalnimi metodami in vrhunskim znanjem reševati pereče probleme sodobnega časa in prispevati k napredku družbe.
1945 Decision to build a Physics Institute was taken by the Slovenian Academy of Science and Arts
1949 Research connected to the peaceful use of atomic energy started, financed by the Federal Government
1952 Institute was named the Jožef Stefan Physics Institute and moved to new laboratories on its present site
1958 Institute was reorganised and new fields of activity were defined: nuclear physics, solid state physics, chemistry, and radiobiology
1969 Institute was named Jožef Stefan Institute
1992 The Institute was reconstructed by the Slovenian Government as public research institution
